Tonight I had the opportunity to play around with Data Dashboard. It is a system that allows teachers to look up student data according to individual class, school, and district. I found this information very useful, particularly at the beginning of the new school year with a brand new class.
By looking at Data Dashboard, I was able to retrieve the previous CRT scores of my students in my current class. I was also able to see math and language arts tests scores found in Aimsweb. This was useful in helping me plan my guided reading groups for the future. By knowing this information, I can more easily anticipate which group my students will belong.
Data dashboard was also useful in helping me find my class' strength and weaknesses. By looking at last year's CRT scores, I can already tell that my students show strength in math and science. Overall class scores in language arts are significantly lower. This means that my instruction this year will place emphasis in reading and language arts.
