Teaching Philosophy
It is my philosophy that all students have the right to a high-quality public education. My responsibility as a professional educator is to establish a learning atmosphere in which students feel safe, appreciated, and respected in the classroom. I want my classroom to be a place that students are encouraged to share ideas and ask questions without a fear of being ridiculed by others. Most importantly, I want my students to feel a love and excitement for learning as they continue to grow cognitively, socially, and emotionally.
My relationship with my students is of highest importance to me. Throughout the year, I will constantly seek to build a positive relationship with each of my students by learning their passions, interests, strengths/weaknesses, and learning styles. This information will help me tailor my lessons to fit the needs and interests of the individual. I want my students to know that I am their biggest supporter and cheerleader.
I believe that students learn best when they understand how to learn. Students need to learn the best strategies for comprehending and remembering new information, practical ways to learn and study at home, and how to properly manage their time. My students will be taught and encouraged to perform at their personal best, both academically and behaviorally. I will reward students for the effort they put into class assignments and activities.
Throughout the year, students will be given instruction as outlined in the core curriculum. However, I also want to create many opportunities for student-centered learning. By this, I mean that I want to create and implement numerous hands on activities that allow students to discover knowledge for themselves. Through problem solving and use of visual aids and materials, I want my students to seek after knowledge and discover that learning is fun!
