In class, we learned about the presentation tool called Prezi. It is similar to Powerpoint, but it focuses around frames, rather than slides. I have only made one Prezi presentation in the past, and I am still torn about which presentation format I prefer. I am more visually attracted to a Prezi, however, it is less user friendly to me as the creator.
I began working on a new presentation in Prezi in class. My concern is that the screen jumps around too much and will be distracting for several of my children. I enjoy the simplicity of Powerpoint in that the content is the focus point, rather than the transitions. I think Prezi is most powerful when sequencing events or focusing frames around a central idea. Therefore, it'd be useful in having students create their own Prezi's to showcase their ideas. Some ideas may include a presentation on the steps to the Civil War or the characteristics of a person in a book.
I'm still not entirely sold on Edcanvas. It seems very student-centered learning and might be useful as a center in class. Perhaps I could create an Edcanvas online and then have students work through it at their own pace.
